WAVES (2020)

Swagata’s sophomore single “Waves” takes listeners through an introspective and pensive ode to navigating change while declaring the future will be brighter. Just like how the waves of an ocean can crash down and transitions into calm, the song aims to capture raw and vulnerable human emotions and evolve them into comforting sonic escapes while providing strength to persevere and move forward.

“This song comes at a perfect time during our civilization in turmoil. No matter how difficult the seas may look, sail proud with your head held high as you will weather the storm. Like the first lyric of the song, "some days are hard". Then like a rouge wave the song takes sail to your interpersonal thoughts like riptide that reveals the calm sea, duck diving between your thoughts and your feelings. Harmonic guitar droplets fall from the sky, adding context to the intro. With the lull sea comes the majestic hook of the choirs, as it lays out your path of enlightenment. One can only vision the crashing waves against the shoreline and the smell of the sea. Before your epic ride comes to an end, your ears are transversed into the pocket of the guitar solo, peeling perfectly into point break. The beauty of the lyrics, its semantic content, convey its meaning alongside the tempo of the melody”

LENS (2019)

Inspired by her love for photography, Swagata’s debut single “Lens” speaks to the feelings we go through as we begin to connect with someone in that special way. When we look through a camera and capture those sweet little moments, we freeze the details and memories that take us back to experiencing love, admiration, wonder, and anticipation, with the hope that the person on the other side of the lens feels the same way..

“When you hear a song like “Lens” and are faced with the task of presenting it visually, you’re immediately challenged to step up to the plate as a director. A song ABOUT photography demands a spectacle that uses the form in an interesting way beyond just utilizing video to tell the story. We tackled the narrative by making heavy use of unique photo techniques to put stills in motion and see the crescendoing tale of attraction through the perspective of the photographer and storyteller. When it came to shooting the performance aspect, the choice was obvious, set it up like a photoshoot! Swagata trusted the process throughout, despite the intricate and non-linear way the video had to be shot. I’m proud of the result and thrilled I got to collaborate with her.”
